Vet bills, a helpful tip for you all...
So this guy I work with is whining to me just now that it cost him $155.00 to have his dog (a female) "fixed."
He was complaining how expensive it was, they don't have the money, blah, blah, blah.
I offered him advice, and it struck me as so insightful that I felt that I should share it as my gift to all of you pet owners out there:

It dosen't cost anything to drown puppies...

Once again, my web designer pulls through. Total site hits were down for the week, but now with this great new template, the comments should be rollin' in!

I'm going to write a post about nothing. Just like a Seinfeld episode. The content of what I usually post doesn't get commented on so I'm going to try this as an experiment.

from church prank to parent punishment
You know, I'd've loved to have been a fly on the wall for the homeschool co-op. mom's meeting in which that one was thought up. Heh.

But I mean, hey, as long as it's not Blazin' Sauce, the kid will probably survive. Break into an uncontrollable fit of sob filled crying everytime the lady at Taco Bell asks "Do you want sauce with that?", but survive none-the-less.

Busy, busy, busy
I'm just trying to get everything in order before homeschool starts this year. Note to self...... Throw away the old mechanical pencils with no lead and erasers! Buy nice NEW pencils. Purchase glue sticks, tape, notebooks, pens, markers, colored pencils, folders, replace broken calculator. Find a store that sells the planning book you always use. Sort books, old papers. Update last years transcripts. Plan lessons!! Contact music teachers.

Dream .......of the big yellow schoolbus stopping at the door and whisking the kids off for the day.......while I......put the homeschooling books in the attic and make room for my big screen TV so I can watch....Oprah!

Dawn of the dead, revisited...

The PUMA sportswear company headquarters is next door to the place I work. It is an industrial cul-de-sac that is maybe one quarter mile long, and my company has a building on either side of the street. Several times per year, PUMA has their big "tent sale" an event featuring PUMA running shoes, sweats, tee shirts, VELOUR TRACK SUITS, (for you Cass) etc, at low, low, LOW! prices. That seems innocent enough, but don't be fooled. This thing attracts huge numbers of bargain-crazed shoppers, mostly youngish and female. They come by the SUV-load, line both sides of the street for its entire length, and park in our lot in such numbers that we had to block our driveway with trashcans, just so that those of us who actually work there can have places to park. They walk the length of the street looking sort of dazed, drawn to this place, much like the stars of the above-mentioned movie. Scary!

A coworker of mine, a 32-year-old single guy thought he would mosey over and see if he could grab a few cheap tee shirts for work. What a mistake. He described the scene in the big bargain tent as resembling nothing so much as a "huge bar fight." He said there where just "clumps" of women, young and old, "arms flailing, yelling and FIGHTING" over the great bargains. When someone suggested that an eligible bachelor like him should not be so intimidated by a bunch of women, and indeed should seize this as an opportunity, he replied that he feared either being killed, or ending up registered with the police on a predator list. He got frightened and came back empty handed.

Quite the scene, all in all. There is material enough there for someone to do a doctoral thesis in mob mentality, I'll bet.

Submitted for your approval, by me, a humble observer of the human condition.

New Computer...
I am trying out the new computer that was refered to in the post just previous to this one. What better use could I put it to than to make a blog post? And for the record, the only reason that Mrs. A cannot see me right now is that her eyes are closed, likely due to her being fast asleep. Nothing to do with new computers, etc. She is just across the room and is either fast asleep or she is dead. I think I will head over there and jab her knee with a pen and find out which it is.

With tropical storm Charley passing over us, it's a great day to just lay back and do jigsaw puzzles.

Just a thought......First came Hurricane Andrew and then Charley. I don't want to be around when hurricane Anastasia shows up on the weather radar!

wow
At 2pm today I drop off Tessa at the church. She's leaving on the pre teen camping trip and will be back on Sunday. The other three, Cass, Andrew, and Charlie left yesterday to set up the camp. They are there as counselors. That's scarey. From what I can tell, there is a tropicial storm and a hurricane that will be passing directly over them Friday and Saturday. hee hee.

Sportsmen Club
Scooter and I went with Alan to the Sportsmen's club meeting tonight. Being minorities, we sat in the back of the room to get a good view of the action. Usually some senseless arguement arrupts over by-laws or what brand of hot dogs should be served at the meetings...but NOTHING happened tonight. I left unsatisfied. Alas, another month must pass before I get another chance to see guys be guys.

Visiting Fort at #4
We spent yesterday on the New Hampshire, Vermont border right on the Connecticut River. We traveled two and a half hours to get there with everyone on board the "Green Monster". Banana peels were flying and juice boxes were spilling ,but anyone on the outside of the van (through the non tinted windows) could only see Alan and me ,smiling to ourselves, happy to be able to have a day to ourselves with the kids. We seem to be sharing them a lot with opthers as they are getting older and it's just nice to be able to enjoy the times we can spend as a family.

Fort #4 is a fort that has been rebuilt . It was used in the French and Indian war for the British in the 1750's. We went to see the reenactment of the battle there and also to visit friends Pete and Wendy who had just moved to Charleston, NH from Lowell. Charlie had been helping them move all week so we also went to pick him up.

At the fort we found Charlie, dressed in period clothes and barefoot, selling muzzleloaders in Pete's tent. He has been aprenticing with Pete for the summer as a gunsmith and has learned a great deal about primitive arms and American history. The fort and the reenactment was truly living history and more than I could have taught them in a year from a book. I'm hoping this sparks Charlie into a lifetime of learning and enjoyment of history.
