Merry Christmas...
Just a few quick thoughts. A few days ago, we celebrated the 16th birthday for Chaz, 3 days late so that Markie could attend. There are a bunch of phots that I have not yey had a chance to process for posting, but I thought I would present these two, just as a teaser. In this shot, Chaz obviously has not read the "THIS BAG IS NOT A TOY" warning that was printed on the bag. He can sometimes be a bad role model for the younger ones, I think. I will leave it to the Fetafilter audience to caption this shot of SJ and her new friend. SJ seems a bit detached.

On a newsgroup I frequent, somebody posted a link to this short, true story written about a Christmas in 1945. It seemed worth passing on. It does make me wonder how many stories like this will be published about a Christmas spent in a desert in Iraq or Afganistan, 60-some years from now. Let's all be thankful for what we have, be it a little or a lot, and remember to pray for those guys who have voulenteered to face bombs and bullets, on all of our behalf.

Merry Christmas from the staph at Fetafilter!

Oh Great!
Like I said, Oh Great!
You try to have a little bit of Christmas spirit, and there is Mrs A. with her pesky video camera. Then, to make matters worse, she goes and posts it on the web.

Check it out here.

How embarassing...

OK, here it is...
It has been a while since our last update, although the last 2 posts ought to give us all a tiny glimpse into the mind of Mrs A. Heh. I do love that John Stuart Mill quote, it is one that spent some time hanging on the door of my office at work.

It is not that nothing interesting has happened around here lately, there just has been little time to devote to posting about it. I find it curious that whenever I make any reference to the high level of busy-ness around here, everybody seems to assume that it is all related to either Christmas or the upcoming wedding. Actually, I'm not certain it is really due to either of those things, in any great measure. Sure we have stuff to tend to for both events, but I don't think those are the major contributors. Things are just busy lately. Though one day last week did bring the arrival of a box containing 7+ pounds of Koufeta. Again, Heh.

Past experience and millions of dollars in market research has shown that the vast Fetafilter audience just loves pictures, so the Fetafilter staph decided to present a medium sized photoblog in order to make up for the recent lack of timely posts.

Being that Christmas (not "xmas") is just around the corner, it was of course time to get a tree. I picked one up from Fathead's Christmas trees in Pelham, my favorite place to get them, two years running. After Chaz, Teds and I picked one out, I gave my cash to Fathead, and we headed home. As it has been unseasonably warm this year, we were able to immediately set up the tree in the house, and a few hours later, the tree decorating commenced. Ted and Ray hung a few things, and having burned off their combined 4 minute attention span, took off someplace. So the bulk of the decorating fell to Tess and Mrs A. to complete. Things went along fine, with much merrymaking going on in the background. Then disaster suddenly struck! Mrs A. was in great distress! What to do! Fortunately, the Broken Christmas Bulb Cleanup Brigade (The BCBCB) was not far behind. Crack BCBCB operatives, including the famous June Cleaver (complete with pearls) swooped in using the latest high tech tools to contain the spill, and prevent any major environmental damage. Order was restored, and a sense of calm returned to the crew, allowing them to complete the task at hand. In the end it all worked out, and joy, happiness and satifaction was everywhere.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

December is here!
Here it is, December first. So it is time again to get started on the world famous Mistletoe and Meat advent calendar, featured here on Fetafilter about this time last year. Don't cheat and open any of the doors early, and make sure to try out all of the projects!
