for something more "this hour"
Just in case you had anything better to do tonight than watch hairy men throw stuff, the steady girlfriend of Fetafilter relative Paulianna (nephew, cousin, cousin 1.5) just won like. A pennant. Thing. Which is a good thing in that circle. So. Yeah. No word on if he proposed to her to mark the occasion. More on this fast breaking story of baseball and true love as details emerge.

So there!
Yes, once again time has proven me to be the visionary and trend-setter that I have always claimed to be. Just ask my wife or children. I was wearing mismatched plaids and camo YEARS before anyone made up the term "Grunge look." I was a huge Gumby fan 20 years after everyone else forgot him (and his pal Pokey), but 10 years BEFORE the big Gumby resurgance of the mid 90's. As a mater of fact, I used to call my wife, before she was my wife, "Gumby." My office at work sported (and still does) a collection of Mr. Potatohead paraphanaliea years before he resurfaced as a spokesman for Burger King and the "Toy Story" movies. I was driving a Ford Bronco before anyone had coined the term "SUV." Let's not forget "Pope-soap-on-a-rope." Yep, my idea.
And those are just the big ones.

And it happend AGAIN today. I have been threatening for several years to bring Cassie to the mall, with me wearing one of these:
CoolHat
I just think it would be a cool thing to wear around. I was telling my co-worker (a cool dude named Frank) about it a few days ago, when we saw one in a catalog of safety supplies we get. So this morning, Frank shows me this latest offering from the fashion team of Victor and Rolf's spring collection:
Fashion Model
He showed it to me in one of the local newspapers, but I found it on the web. If you think I am making this up, look here...*

So I've done it again. At this point, I am not at all surprised.

Keep your muffins off my stove!
TA-DA! The new stove has arrived and has been installed! Woe to the one who drips grease on it or puts fingerprints on the oven window. I think I shall admire its newness for a few days before it is christened. Anyone for crock pot stew or microwaved fishsticks?

Blessing of the pets (?)
So there was a little photo-and-caption story in the local newspaper today about a local Catholic priest (in full Pope-like garb*) doing a "Blessing of The Pets" thing in some town around here over the weekend. Come on now, really. Think about it. Funny thing was that the caption indicated that a cat in the picture was clearly not paying attention to the priest, as he was staring at the camera instead. Sort of the kitty-cat version of falling asleep in church, I suppose. Anyhow, we have always laughed at this sort of stuff, even though it is actually pretty sad. But it did get me thinking. I guess that is what good journalisim is supposed to do, right? So I am thinking that I may propose that our church, every spring, could sponsor a "Blessing of The Riding Lawnmowers." Everyone could bring thier mowers for a brief sunrise service and then all could take a turn around the lawn, in loops of ever decreasing diameter, symbolizing something deeply profound and handily getting some of the landscaping done in the bargin. That could be followed in succesive weeks by the "Blessing of the Weedwhackers, Edgers, and Hedge Trimmers" and let's not forget the "Blessing of the Leaf Blowers and Baggers", come fall. Not any more silly than the pet thing, really. I'm thinking this may be an idea whose time has come.

time is ticking
The new stove is scheduled to arrive on the 5th,the same day as Drew's sweet sixteenth birthday....Will it be connected in time to make Drew a cake? Will Drew even want a cake baked by me? Will I be able to follow the instructions on the cake mix or has it been so long since I have baked that I'll screw it up? These and many more questions are waiting for answers.
