My friend Lori and I decided to bring our kids to the museum last week. While I guess I sometimes think I'm somewhat of an expert multitasker, I was proven wrong by Lori. I'm a beginner. My day started out making bologna sandwiches and packing some Vienna Finger cookies and some juice boxes. I clutched the steering wheel and concentrated intently on my driving into Boston, making sure I didn't miss the exit onto Leverett Circle. I parked the car in the garage with a sigh of relief. I must be getting old, I thought to myself, because I used to do the Boston commute to school for four years -no sweat! I step out of my car and Lori rings my cell phone, "We're here in the lobby" (she beat me). It turns out, Lori had already gotten her kids up, helped her boys to get dressed, and had piano lessons that morning. (I think my hair was still wet from my shower). She had also given her kids a math test while driving into Boston AND ordered, on her cell phone, some CDs from Focus on the Family (while driving in of course). She even had her daughter (a future multitasker) read her the numbers on her credit card. The real kicker came, however, when we sat down for lunch. Lori's "bag" lunch consisted of: homemade roasted garlic soup with rosemary herbed bread, which she shared with all of us, grapes, which she also shared, and fig cookies which we all also enjoyed. Our kids had a GREAT day as you can see by their faces. I always learn something new when I go to the museum. I learned a lot that day but it wasn't from the museum, it was from Lori. She never mopes around like I sometimes do. She lives each day to the fullest and doesn't waste a second. I admire that. I'm glad we're great friends and our kids are too!
