Everyone who knows me well, knows I have a fear of birds. It all started with those nasty seagulls.....but anyway, here's something in the news that's going to haunt the back of my mind this winter. Don't say I didn't warn you:

the last of the roofing projects
Leftover, to remind me of the re-roofing projects consisting of Cassie and Mark's house and our porch, are five roofing razor blades found at the bottom of my washing machine. I'm glad I still have all ten fingers.

Roofing and other Manly Things
Cassie and Mark needed a new roof. Since everyone in this family is "hands on" and also "cheap", it was decided that the roof would be done by the extended "staph" at Fetafilter. After being in the renovation business for eight years, a roof on a ranch style house is not really a daunting task for Mr A, just time consuming when he is already working a full time job. Thankfully, the weather has cooperated this past week and things rolled along smoothly (except for the carpenter ant damage/ repair that slowed things down a bit). We had friends and neighbors pitch in and help on a couple of days, but the true excitement to this whole project was the fact that Teds, now nine years old, was allowed to be on the roof and help.
There is always a point in my son's lives where I have to shut off the "mama" switch and let my boys be boys. This happened when my boys started skateboarding, flying, hunting, splitting wood, using knives, driving, and all the other boy activities that make me worry. I had to not watch Ted walking back and forth over the roof, climbing the ladder, and swinging his hammer. I worried and then shut it off. This was a big event in Teddy's life. He was one of the guys. He braved the freezing wind just because he liked his new grown-up status. He pitched in and truly was a big help. You can see Teds in the video I posted, in the blue hooded sweatshirt, pulling out nails; happy as a clam to be freezing on a roof with his dad and brothers.
In a side note, yesterday Cassie took Ted to get some new work boots. Teds clomped through the house all day, wearing those manly boots and scuffing my floors :-)
