Why I love the web...
Because it brings you fascinating stories like the one below. The story may be fake, I did not bother to try to verify. It doesn't matter to me. This guy is still my new....

.....hero.

Just for coming up with something this stupid.

The garages of Murmansk.
This story has apparently been around for a while, but I think I might fit right in with these guys.
Take a look at the pictures and make sure to read the little captions, which are all drawn from a conversation on the subject with one of the local women.

I sort of want to go here.

Hacked by the Mrs. A:
I have to get my word in here. Mr A tore down his "Murmansk" garage about a month ago. What's all this whining about wanting one? Here's the proof that he had a perfectly good one in his own back yard.

A few bits of random nonsense...
While perusing the "tool for sale" section on a local Craigslist, I saw someone advertising that they are selling an "ARK WELDER". It's only 60 bucks. Looks old, I wonder if it is the one that Noah used?

Also, from the same site came this tidbit:

Favorite White Trash Appetizers

1. Velveeta mixed with pimentos served on saltines or Ritz crackers.

2. Cheese and sausage balls -- Velveeta, breakfast sausage, mixed with Bisquik, the Jiffy brand as it is cheaper, and an egg to bind.

3. Little hot dogs/sausages cooked in a mix of grape jelly and barbecue sauce.

4. Green olives and cream cheese stuffed in celery.

5. And to be healthy, one of those pre-made vegetable trays.

The thing is, that stuff all sounds pretty good to me. Particularly #s 1,2 & 4. Mmmmmmmm.

And if you are amazed at all of this cool internet stuff, and why wouldn't you be (it brings you here after all) thank an engineer. Go here to see more:

I particularly like the "text messaging" one.

Nothing runs like a Deere...
After talking about it for 20+ years, we are finally doing some regrading in our back yard to allow some further projects in the spring time. It is fairly straightforward, just taking the dirt from the high side and moving it to the low side. Problem is that it is a lot of dirt. And rocks. And some big rocks. And then more rocks. We may not have much, but we sure do have lots of rocks.

Anyhow, I am accomplishing all of this digging as the result of a friend who, while he is away hunting, was nice enough to leave his John Deere tractor/backhoe at my house. I have some really nice friends. While I'm sure this barely qualifies as a "Tractor" by VDH standards, it is more than enough for my puny little lot. And it IS a JD. It has been quite a few years since I ran a machine like this, and I was never any kind of pro at it. I sort of had forgotten just how much finesse it takes to work one of these things. Finesse that I don't really have in great amounts, apparently. After working for a few hours on Tuesday, all I managed to get done was to make the yard look like we had been shelled by enemy artillery. But I did have fun, burned some diesel fuel, and increased my carbon footprint. I managed to do better as the week wore on, after a change in digging strategy and a bit more practice.

I am waiting to come home and find Mrs. A tooling around the yard on the tractor. For some reason she seems to stay far away when I am running it. I wonder why that is?
