Perfectionisim, revisited...
|
Back on the 25th of September, Andrew posted on his blog a typical 'Drewy-type post concerning "perfectionisim" and some of the varieties he has observed. Those of you who know me well enough to waste your time reading this nonsense will also know that it is unlikely that I would ever be convicted in a court of law of being any sort of perfectionist. However, (as my duck-hunting friend Brandt said when I finally hit a duck) "Even a blind flea finds a dogs [butt] once in a while!"
So in the perfection department, this is about as close as I get.

Ducks!
|
Well, last Monday was opening day of duck hunting season in Massachusetts. I have never hunted for ducks before, but a friend invited Chaz and I out for opening day. What a great time. We hit the road at about 4:50 AM, in order to make it out the place before sunrise. If you have ever had occasion to be out in the woods or on a small pond in the very early hours of the day, you will know what I mean when I say that it is an amazing place to be. The views and cool air alone make it worth the trip.
Once dawn broke, the ducks and geese started flying in. Now, I do a fair amount of shooting, but not at flying birds. Once they start flying in, they come in FAST! You only have a few seconds to confirm that it is not something you will go to jail for shooting, line up and take the shot. I fired a lot of shells. I missed. Every one. Score:
Al - 0 Ducks/geese - something like 25
Once things slowed down a bit, Chaz and Brandt paddled off in search of more ducks. The dog had a ball. This sort of thing went on all day. What fun. Later in the afternoon, we dropped Chaz off to hike into the woods, shotgun in hand, to take up a spot along the Nashua river. Brandt, the dog and I drove a mile or so down stream and started stalking upstream towards Chaz. Some way up river, Brandt put up a 2 ducks and hit one of them. The dog went nuts, jumped into the water and brought it back. Thirty seconds later, we heard two shots from upriver. A while later, the dog went wild and headed for the river. We looked over and spoted a dead duck floating downstream. After the dog retieved it, Chaz got to admire the fine wood duck he got. Not bad for his first time out!
When all was said and done, we ended the day with Duck, Duck, Goose.

Drewie-Palooza!!!
|
There is just so much information to process about this event, that it has taken me over a week to get through it. But here it is!
Last week was the 18th birthday for our own Drew. We had to schedule the actual party for a day later in order to accomidate the vast guest list. We had a truly amazing mix of guests. After a tasty dinner of lasagna, salad, and lots of other yummy stuff, we got down to the actual birthday business. Never one to do things the "ordinary" way, Mrs A. made Drewie this amazing "Cupcake tower cake!" and this "Cupcake-KABOB!" Drewie was AMAZED! After the traditional birthday song, Drew blew out the candles, (note Mrs A's hand, preventing Drewie from setting himself on fire) then paused to take it all in. Then the cake, ice cream and apple-crisp flowed freely, in spite of the slightly scary apple-crisp.
Once everyone was full, Mrs A. broke out the Gummy Body Parts and the gifts appeared out of nowhere. Drewie opened the first one, and was awed by the sight of this self-propelled tricycle riding skeleton-pop. Who wouldn't be awed? Sven gave Drew a cool rubber bannana that you snap over your cellphone, so it looks like you are talking on a bannana. Not to be outdone, Cass ran and got her Panda cellphone cover, and they proceeded to talk to eachother. One of his favorite presents was this sign, obtained through a secret goverment program by secret goverment operatives. Check out Mrs A. on the left side of that last photo, she was laughing so hard that she near hyperventilated. So a good time was had by all. We simply could not resist the oppurtunity to pose everyone for one group photo.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREWIE!!
