A sure sign that spring is just around the corner...
...is that the ducks are begining to emerge from the snow:

But what does it all mean???
I'm not a big coffee drinker, I usually drink tea, but I often will have one cup first thing in the morning while at work. I'm not really sure why that is because I don't really love the taste of coffee but I attribute it to being just too lazy to make tea. So this morning I walked up to the coffee machine, put my quarter in and pushed the button. Generally while the machine makes my coffee, I turn around and peruse the stuff on the company bulletin board to see if there is anything new or interesting on there. Today was no different, and seeing that nothing had changed on the board from yesterday, I turned back to the machine just in time to see it dispense the milk and then my coffee onto the cup. Not INTO the cup, but ONTO the cup, which had dropped out of the machine and fallen on its side. Great. I could do nothing at that point but let it finish pouring my purchase down the drain, and then mock me by beeping and flashing "Beverage Ready" on the display. Mildly annoyed, I put in another quarter and stood ready to right the cup if it happened again. This time, the machine made some of its coffee making noises, then stopped, beeped several times and flashed the cryptic message "product volumetric meter fail". I am guessing that means that it failed to volumetricly meter the product. Then, as a final insult, it refused to return my quarter. So I did all of the things one is socially obliged to do in such instances, push the coin return button maybe 53 times, shake the machine, stomp, grumble. None of that helped.

I returned, coffee-less, to my office and told my boss that he was lucky that I was still at work. My rational was that nothing good could come of the day starting off like this and that if I had any good sense at all, I would go home, climb into bed, seatbelt myself in and wear a helmet, in an effort to protect myself from the bad things that are no doubt going to befall me as this day wears on. His reply was that the rest of the day ought to be a breeze, as I have likely gotten the worst event out of the way early. I really hate these "The-Glass-Is-Half-Full" types, and told him so.

We'll see how this goes today. I am going to stay at work, but I'm wearing both my hardhat and my tinfoil beanie, just to be on the safe side.

Valentine's, The Force, and other trivia...
It's been a while since the last update, so here goes. It has been pretty busy around the A house. All good stuff, but busy. Of course, the month of February brings Valentine's day, so I got the girls my standard Bunch-O-flowers, which they still seem to like, even after all these years. Since Markie was up to visit (ain't they CUTE!), I figured that Cass would be getting the BIG FLOWERS from Mark, so I was careful to get her the cheesy-bouquet(tm) so as not upstage the boyfriend. Gotta be careful about these things, you know. Cassie returned the gift to Mark by giving him a nasty virus, that he still has not fully recovered from. I'm not entirely sure what came over Mrs A. but she decided to get me a gift for Valentine's day this year. That is not to imply that she is cheap or anything, but we don't typically do big Valentine gifts. Whatever the reason, she appeared out of nowhere with a wrapped box that turned out to contain a new digital camera. YIKES! Needless to say, there has been lots of photos shot around here lately.

Last Thursday, I skipped out of work, and we went to see the Star Wars special exibit at the Boston Museum of Science. It was actually a very good exibit, lots to see and some really cool stuff to do. Ever the engineer, Mrs A could not help but scrutinize this balancing robot, and ride the hovercraft. Ray-Ray spent a long time checking out this robotic vision dude that would seek out human faces, and trying to impress the Wookie. Chaz and Drew had a really good time and even made a few new friends, though I am a bit concerned about one of them, who sort of creeps me out for some reason. I'm afraid he may be a bad influence. As always, Drew found a turkey to hang out with. Ted was overwhelmed trying to take it all in, zipping from one thing to another. He is a strange kid, a "Natural Mystery" in his own right. All in all it was a really fun day. If there is anything you need to know, just ask this guy.

The next day, the high winds managed to knock our power out for most of the afternoon. Mrs A was undeterred, and went about her business cooking dinner by the light of an oil lamp. Ever prepared for every situation, she tuned into the news of the world using her crank-powered AM/FM/SW radio. Teddy, who is unconcerned by such things, just did his puzzle by the woodstove.

On Saturday, I caught this shot of Tess, airborne, during a hockey game.

Been fun around here, as always. What incredibly forutnate people we are.

A few random tidbits
Just a few random bits of internet fluff I happened accross in my wanderings;

Consider the strange story of Alex and Imogene Miller of East Orange, VT. They eked out an existence on a small farm. Alex would scrounge rusty nails from burnt buildings to repair his roof. He drove a ratty VW Beetle, and when it died, he found another even more ratty, and another...the rusting carcasses littered his yard. Alex died in 1993, and Imogene died in 1996. The local church took up a collection so they could be buried in the churchyard, and the state began the process of taking the farm for taxes. That would have been the end of a sad story, except.....

Read the rest here...

And what could be cooler than the INTERNET SLIDERULE!

And last but not least, I don't exactly know why, but I am REALLY bugged by this ladies face.

Small edit: Replaced the dead link on the "Alex Miller" story. - Mista A.
