Photoblog 2!!
|
Due to the wild sucess of Cassies PhotoBlog! posting last month, I felt I could do no better than to blatently copy it. So here goes:
As was mentioned earlier, Feb. 14 th is Qucakies birthday. The day started out with Sue making a cake. Quackie, always quick to be the center of attention, jumped at the chance to pose with Sue and Chaz. Even before the cake was finished, Quackie could not keep his eyes off of it, staring in awe at the wonderful cake. But being such a wiseguy, it did not take long (once Sue turned her back) for Quackie to get into Trouble. And Andrew, Teddy and the Octopus waited anxiously for the fun to begin. Finally the cake was finished, and the Duck teapot gave his approval. After singing the traditional "Birthday Song" Quackie blew out the candles. The excitement of the moment is captured in this thrilling action shot! Being the birthday boy, Quackie cut the cake. Being a wiseguy, he cut a tiny sliver for Teddy, and a somewhat bigger slice for himself. Never one to disappoint us, Teddy fell onto his cake. Quackie was overwhelmed by his wonderful gifts, a snowman PEZ dispenser, a minature glazed ceramic Mr. & Mrs Noah, and some wintergreen ROLAIDS.
Quackie enjoyed visiting with one of his favorite people J.Jean, who came a bit late due to school but managed to not miss out on the fun. Looking on in the lower left of that photo is Bob, one of Tessa's favorite dolls. Bob had a great time, in spite of his handicap. Chaz, having eaten WAY too much cake, was attempting to "purge", but fortunately his mom talked him out of it. Looking over the aftermath of the party, one can think only: "Oh the humanity!" It was days before Octupus was able to recover.

...and from your little engineering wife
|
Our love as ancient as the tube, When emitting cathode rays, The glowing beam of light, Upon young summer days.
The little electrons came one by one, And filled the home to full capacitance Who would have ever thought What a charge they have been since. United, wed nand building a home, The road or hard together, We stuck together nor separated Through the stormy weather. And so my loving engineer I have studied the same as you. I still have that spark of love For engineering and you too !

Belated Valentine....
|
Well, I stumbled on this while mooching about the web this afternoon. It is too late to send this to my wife as an "offical" Valentine, and I simply cannot wait until next year. So I submit it here and now as a slightly belated Valentine tribute to my dear wife Sue, love of my life:
"The Engineer's Valentine" I was alone and all was dark Beneath me and above My life was full of volts and amps But not the spark of love
But now that you are here with me My heart is overjoyed You turn the square wave of my heart Into a sinusoid
You load things from my memory Onto my system's bus My life was once assembly code Now it's C++
I love the way you solder things My circuts you can fix The voltage across your diode is much more then just point six
With your amps and resistors You have built my integrator I cannot survive without you You are my function generator
You have charged my life, increased my gain And made my maths discrete And now I'll end my poem here Control, Alt, and Delete

One Saturday Morning
|
Hey! Thanks Marg, for the picture of all of us with our ducks. There used to be a network intro to the Saturday morning cartoons that had a brief clip of a duck in it. Every Saturday, when the promo came on someone would yell " the duckie, the duckie" and from the four corners of the house, everyone would come running with one of their ducks, to see the duckie in the promo. If someone didn't make it in time there was great wailing because they missed the exciting "duckie". I think this picture was taken right after the promo on a Saturday morning. I guess everyone made it in time because no one is crying! The picture shows Alan holding Ray, Andrew, Chaz holding Quackie in his right hand, Cassie, and Tessa on the floor. There was no Teddy back in 1999! Too bad we can't see Quackie too well.

QUACKIE'S birthday
|
Quackie always usurps Valentine's Day. He's a beanbag duck that was given to Chaz on Valentine's Day when Chaz was four years old. All the kids got beanbags, but Quackie came ALIVE. He was the troublemaker, the wiseguy, the one who once used a questionable word in front of mom and got punished . He was Chaz's alter ego. We have celebrated Quackie's "birthday" ever since. We have more videos of Quackie with his cake, candles and gifts than we do of Tessa! So much for intimate candlelit dinners alone on Valentine's Day. "Oi" say's Quackie,"you can't forget me!"

The place I work has facilities located in 3 different buildings. One of them is just across the street from where I work and the third is located about 9 miles away in Tyngsboro, which is the next town over. Today as I often do, I was driving back to my office from our Tyngsboro facility and found myself following a school bus. Because this town is a formerly-rural-but-now-heavily-developed type area, there are numerous little cul-de-sac type developments full of HUGE new homes, running off the winding main road. What that means around here is that once you get behind a bus, you will stop maybe every 150 yards along the road, as it stops at the end of each one of these roads to pick up the kids for school, who on cold days are often waiting in a string of idleing cars with a parent. This slows your commute WAY down. But today, despite my being in a bit of mood, that did not really bother me too much. It was a very nice, crisp morning and I was finding the ride to be a nice break in my work day which had started very early, and got off to a less than perfect start.
Anyhow, as the bus stoped at the end of one of these roads there was only 1 car waiting. It was one of those giant $50K Lexus SUVs, and was on the side of the road opposite from the bus, about a car-length back from the intersection. Once the bus stopped and had its lights flashing, stopping a small line of cars on both sides of the road, the driver side door of that SUV opened, the mom (obviously dressed for work) got out, walked around and opened the passanger side door. A tiny kid hopped out, maybe 4 or 5 years old at most, toting a little backpack. Mom proceded to walk the little kid to the edge of the road, put her hand on the back of his head, and gave him a little nudge into road towards the bus. He ran into the road, around the front of the bus, and climbed in. A pretty ordinary happening, really. But what struck me was the mom. As soon as that kid had taken his first step into the road, as soon as her hand was no longer touching his head, she had turned around and was headed back to her truck. She turned back to climb into her truck just as the bus was starting to pull away. Her back was to that little, tiny kid the whole time. And even though it was all of maybe 20 seconds, I found myself thinking, "She didn't even watch her kid cross the street, she didn't even wave to the kid. What a jerk." Just as quickly as that thought blew into my head, it blew out again. And I actually felt sorry for her. It is most likely that she has utterly no idea just how much that big beautiful Lexus is really costing her.

Sighting!
|
I am expecting that any day Mark may be showing up at our door, unannounced. I think I spotted him in downtown Lowell, trying to earn enough cash for the final leg of the trip. Luckily, he did not spot me and I had my camera with the long lens. look:
